Cross country teams perform well at home meet

The South Plains College men’s and women’s cross country teams protected their home with a strong showing in Levelland.

The teams competed in the South Plains College Cross Country Invitational on Oct. 8.

The SPC men’s team finished first in the event, placing five runners in the top 10, and scoring 20 points.

Sophomore Felix Kosgei placed first with a time of 25:49, while sophomore Omero Rodriguez placed second with a time of 26:07. Sophomore Jose Silva placed third with a time of 26:15.

Rounding out the top 10 were sophomore Deric Martinez and sophomore Connor Hughes, who finished in sixth and eighth, respectively. Martinez posted a time of 26:48, while Hughes posted a time of 26:57.

Sophomore Nicholas Rotich posted a time of 27:14, finishing 14th, while freshman Leo Michel finished with a time of 28:25, finishing 34th.

Sophomore Robert Downs finished with a time of 29:43, finishing 53rd, while freshman Kai Rodgers posted a time of 32:43, finishing 68th.

The SPC women’s cross country team also had a good showing at the SPC Cross Country Invitational, placing third with 76 points.

Freshman Seselia Dala posted a time of 18:34, placing third, while freshman Leslie Romero placed sixth with a time of 19:13. Sophomore Poro Gahekave finished 10th with a time of 19:47.

Freshman Caitlyn Mercer posted a time of 21:38, finishing 39th, while freshman Tricie Smith posted a time of 22:11, finishing 49th.

Freshman Jasmine Campos finished with a time of 22:46, finishing 53rd, while freshman Lydia Mancillas clocked in at time of 22:59, finishing 57th.
